Environment Canada - Canada

The NPRI is Canada's legislated, publicly-accessible inventory of pollutants released, disposed of and sent for recycling by facilities across the country. Industrial, institutional and commercial facilities which meet NPRI reporting requirements are required to report under the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, 1999 (CEPA 1999).

Management System and Data Management Implications

NPRI reporting can have significant implications for industrial facilities. An extensive list of substances must be monitored.

To effectively report on these substances, a data management system can be useful to:

  • Record chemical uses and releases.
  • Setup an NPRI configuration to use the sources of data in the implementation.
  • Evaluate reporting thresholds to determine chemicals required to report.
  • Run the report to create an NPRI Submission.
  • Generate the NPRI submission.
  • Upload NPRI Report data to Environment Canada's One Window to National Environmental Reporting System.
