The Sustainable Development Framework is comprised of three elements – a set of 10 Principles (including a set of supporting position statements), public reporting and independent assurance – each approved by the CEO-led Council. Developed systematically since the formation of ICMM in 2001, the Framework has its foundations in the Mining, Minerals, and Sustainable Development (MMSD) project. MMSD was the result of a two-year consultation process with stakeholders to identify issues relating to sustainable development in the mining and minerals sector. The 10 Principles are visionary statements grounded in corporate ethics and sustainability; human rights and social responsibility; risk, health and safety, and environmental strategies.
