TEMPE, Ariz. – July 16, 2009 – ESS, the leading provider of Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S) and Crisis Management software, today announced a major program initiative to expand and strengthen its enterprise sustainability software offerings.  In support of this initiative, ESS has appointed acclaimed domain expert Rebecca Sternberg as Vice President of Sustainability Solutions.

Sternberg is a well-known industry expert who founded global consulting firm Accenture’s sustainability management consulting practice in 2006. During her tenure, she worked with clients across major industry sectors to develop effective strategies, business model design, leadership, performance management and large program design and execution. Additionally, she recently led an initiative with one of the world’s leading software firms to design and deliver its product and operational sustainability strategy.

"Sustainability is driving increased corporate interest in technology solutions that allow companies to execute against their vision," Sternberg said. "ESS' proven ability in highly complex industries, its deeply integrated environmental expertise, partner ecosystem and strong leadership team provide the foundation to help companies address their sustainability challenges.  I am excited for the opportunity to join this group in shaping the future of our world."

"ESS has helped many of the world's largest companies — including half of the Fortune 500 and 70 percent of the Fortune 100 — efficiently manage their regulatory compliance and voluntary reporting commitments for nearly two decades," said Robert Johnson, ESS President and CEO. "Having Rebecca join ESS represents another significant step in our effort to help our clients transform their financial, environmental and social challenges into a competitive advantage in a world that expects business to lead."

Sternberg holds an MBA in Sustainable Management from the Presidio School of Management, Master's in Health Science from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, a graduate Certificate in Economics from the University of York, England, and a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Anthropology from Mount Holyoke College.
