EH&S/Crisis Management Event Focuses on Best Practices and
IT Solutions
Tempe, Arizona – October 19, 2006 – The growing role of information technology in helping global companies manage risk and comply with increasing government regulation over distributed operations was the chief emphasis of industry analysts and risk management experts at ESS EXPO 2006 in Phoenix, Arizona last week.
More than 300 leading environmental, health and safety (EH&S), crisis management and information technology professionals gathered to explore operational risk challenges and breakthrough information management solutions, making ESS EXPO.06 the largest IT users’ conference dedicated specifically to EH&S and Crisis Management issues.
"ESS EXPO has grown dramatically, more than doubling in size during the past two years, because more and more organizations are looking for better ways to manage the risks and costs associated with EH&S and Crisis Management," said Robert Johnson, ESS President and CEO. "This year’s conference was especially exciting, providing attendees with an opportunity to learn about new holistic information management strategies, award-winning best practices and integrated technology solutions that they can use to achieve their business goals more easily and cost-effectively."
One highlight of the EXPO was the inaugural ESS Excellence Awards Gala, where the New York Power Authority was named"Best of the Best" among 18 other businesses, agencies and institutions that also were recognized for establishing best practices in the application of advanced information systems for EH&S and Crisis Management.
Five concurrent tracks with more than 50 sessions, led by industry analysts, EH&S and crisis managers, business executives, and variety of top technology and service providers offered:
- Strategic Insights… Independent analysts from Forrester Research, Marsh USA and MRO Software provided their perspectives on the relationships between operational risk management and enterprise asset management, risk analytics, performance metrics and other critical disciplines – relationships that demand integrated information technologies to transform complex challenges into new drivers for operational excellence
- Best Practices… Because ESS software is used by nearly 50 percent of the Fortune 500, ESS EXPO.06 sessions included case studies from global industry leaders including Alcoa, Clorox, ConocoPhillips, Dow Chemical, Duke Energy, Halliburton, Sprague Energy, Sunoco, SUPERVALU and others. It also featured user stories from public sector agencies ranging from the USDA Forest Service to the City of Boynton Beach, Florida. Several presenters were ESS Excellence Awards winners.
- New Solutions… ESS and its business partners presented a full spectrum of information systems and services, including previews of new solutions for crisis planning and response, incident management and regulatory reporting, an EH&S business intelligence dashboard, and more. Microsoft spotlighted its new Virtual Earth online mapping as well as the use of Microsoft Office for EH&S and Crisis applications.
