New Jersey Natural Gas (NJNG) was founded more than 50 years ago and serves nearly half a million customers in four counties of The Garden State. The company has earned the public's trust through its strong service record and its commitment to full compliance with state and federal environmental, health and safety regulations. One of its ongoing challenges in this arena is the shipping and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous waste products generated at the company's 10 facilities.

The Challenge

  • Track hazardous and non-hazardous waste shipments from multiple facilities for EPA biennial waste reporting
  • Facilitate management of remediation programs, answer audit inquiries, comply with internal environmental systems

The Solution

Compliance Suite™

  • Waste Management Software
  • Safety Management Software
  • Training Management Software

The Results

  • Cut time required for data retrieval and analysis from hours to seconds
  • Streamlined EPA biennial waste reporting and auditing across 10 facilities

New Jersey Natural Gas is meeting this challenge by using Compliance Suite™ Waste Management Software to track ALL of its waste shipments, including both hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

Waste Management Software allows users to easily track waste inventories including accumulation drums, storage containers and lab packs. Treatment, Storage and Disposal Facility (TSDF) approval processes and associated costs can be easily managed, and shipping documents including manifests and inventory sheets can be generated with just a few clicks.

NJNG staff members are using the Compliance Suite module to generate data for timely submission of regulatory reports in accordance with the EPA Biennial Waste Report. Managers also use the system to manage site remediation programs, answer questions regarding audits, and conduct compliance activities for the company's environmental management system.

With Compliance Suite, the status of each hazardous waste shipment is at the users' fingertips. They can be confident that their cradle-to-grave waste management responsibilities are being met through the use of automated shipping and associated documents, including manifests and inventory sheets. In addition, the proper DOT shipping name and pure chemical databases are pre-loaded into the software.

"We have found Compliance Suite to be a very useful tool," said Lisa Devine, senior environmental engineer at NJNG. "It has helped us streamline our waste information management processes so we can find the data we need and answer questions in seconds rather than minutes or hours."
