Hunter Douglas of Broomfield, Colorado wanted to enhance worker safety and reduce costs at its 900-employee facility by transitioning its safety reporting and incident tracking process from manual data entry to an automated information management system.
Company officials acquired Compliance Suite™ Safety Management Software to streamline incident tracking and periodic OSHA reporting and support its efforts to improve worker safety.
Compliance Suite™
This powerful, easy-to-use module contains more than 30 pre-loaded reports and graphs, including the most current OSHA Required 300 Log and 301 Report. In addition, a built-in OSHA recordability test helps organizations avoid fines and workplace safety is maximized through the software's comprehensive cost-tracking analysis capabilities.
Kevin Bucey, Hunter Douglas safety coordinator, was introduced to Compliance Suite Safety Management Software when he served as a safety manager for Timminco Corporation, a global leader in the production and marketing of magnesium, silicon metal and ferrosilicon, calcium and strontium alloys.
Then as the chairman of the Voluntary Protection Program (VPPPA) Region 8 board of directors, he shared information regarding Safety Management Software with organization members at the regional and national levels.
"When I moved to Hunter Douglas, I found our staff doing manual data entry, tracking and reporting," Bucey said. "I did not hesitate to recommend that we obtain this ESS software, because I knew it would greatly benefit Hunter Douglas, just as it did Timminco."
During the first year following the system's implementation, Hunter Douglas paid 50 percent less in workers' compensation claims; injury incidents decreased by 50 percent; and staff days lost to injury fell by 80 percent. In addition, the company eliminated fines for late incident reporting. Compliance Suite also enabled enhanced tracking and incident follow-up, and helped drive operational excellence, as safety managers were able to invest more time working with employees.
